Why We Were Founded

Founded in 1981, the Louisiana Museum Foundation was created as a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit to accept and administer grants and community donations on behalf of the Louisiana State Museum (LSM). As an agency of state government, the LSM is unable to accept and administer community contributions. 

What is the Louisiana State Museum?

Founded in 1906, the LSM is the official state-supported museum of Louisiana history and culture that encompasses a statewide network of National Historic Landmarks and architecturally significant buildings in five Louisiana cities that house nearly half a million artifacts. Our Mission

Our mission is to preserve, present and promote Louisiana’s history and culture through the provision of services in support of the collections, exhibitions and educational programming of the LSM.
